Frequently Asked Questions
Can I nominate a teammate? The nomination form asks you to nominate up to 2 people from your team. These will be considered in the award decision-making process but ONLY IF he was ALSO nominated by a player, coach or WPIAL official not from your team.
If my teammates or coach nominate me will I be considered for the award? Only if an opposing player, opposing coach or WPIAL official ALSO nominated you. Nominations from your own coach and/or teammates are only considered once you have been nominated by a person outside of your high school.
If I complete a nomination form, do I have to give my email address? Yes. Your email is required to prevent multiple submissions by the same person and will give you a copy of your nomination to confirm that it went through. Your information will be kept confidential and will not be used for anything outside of this award.
Do I have to nominate at least 1 player from ANOTHER team to submit the nomination form? Yes.
What high schools and students are part of "Western Pennsylvania"? Any high school which is in the WPIAL region of PIAA
Are you affiliated with the WPIAL or the PIAA organization? No. This is a separate nonprofit created solely for boys' tennis in Western PA.
Can I nominate myself? No. Potential awardees are chosen from the list of players nominated by a WPIAL official or player/coach from a different school. In addition, if you are nominated by another school, if you list yourself as one of the top two players for your own school, your self-nomination will not be considered but it will not disqualify you.
What is considered in determining the awardees? The totality of the nominations and comments, including but not limited to: 1) number of player and coach nominations and comments from different schools, 2) WPIAL official nominations and comments, 3) Comments from the player's own team and whether he is one of the top nominees from his own school, and 4) nominations in prior years without winning.
Who is making the decisions? Boys' High School Tennis coaches and one athletic director to break any ties.
